Plastic Surgeon
Duties and Responsibilities:
Plastic surgeons are medical professionals, specializing in
the correction or restoration of form and function of damaged or malformed
areas of the body. Plastic surgery includes many types of reconstructive
surgery, hand surgery, microsurgery, and the treatment of burns. Plastic
surgery, as a specialty, evolved remarkably during the 20th century in the
United States, gaining increasing importance during the treatment of World War
I soldiers with complex maxillofacial injuries.
Salary: $286,000- $424,000 yearly
Education:
Like all physicians, plastic surgeons spend many years in
training, beginning with four years of college. This is followed by four years
of medical school and a residency training program. Most residencies in plastic
surgery take a minimum of five years and may last seven or more years. Plastic
surgeons who want to pursue a subspecialty need at least one additional year of
training. They must also be licensed, and many are also board-certified.
I wouldn't like to work in this field because there is always the possibility that it might look worse.
